chosen tribes
I chose to join RAGE. Years later, I chose rap.
Neither choice made me an insider on the first day. RAGE had ranks to climb, rules to learn, and work to do. Rap required writing, recording, performing, losing, listening, and returning. Chosen tribes make room for entry, but participation decides whether the membership becomes real.

circumstantial tribes
Some memberships begin with something that happened to people. A migration, an illness, a layoff, a collapse, or a recovery can create instant recognition between strangers.
The event alone does not tell me whether a tribe formed. I look for what people build around it. Do they gather, develop language, remember the same moments, help one another, and begin to use "we"?

place tribes
A place can do the first part of the grouping. Mexico City, a school, a neighborhood, a Discord server, or one public forum can keep putting the same people in contact.
I was born in Barcelona, moved to Mexico when I was two months old, spent four months in Cardiff, and changed elementary schools four times. By middle school, my closest group of friends was made up of people who had been born outside Mexico or carried some kind of foreigner identity.
The school put us in the same place. Feeling slightly out of place helped us recognize one another. That shared recognition mattered more than the address by itself.

intimate tribes
The three Emperors of RAGE had access and responsibility that the full clan did not share. Our decisions could affect 150 members. That smaller circle existed inside the larger tribe.
Founding teams, leadership groups, military units, and people who passed through one intense event can work the same way. Their shared memories may stay important even when the group is tiny.

belief-system tribes
Reality Transurfing gives people words such as pendulums, excess potential, and variants. Those words do more than name a hobby. They offer a way to explain why life moves as it does and what somebody should do next.
When people identify as Transurfers, gather around the model, teach it, defend it, and recognize one another through its language, I see a belief-system tribe. Human Design, Bitcoin maximalism, and some religious or political groups can form this way too. The shared lens is the point of entry.

people contain several at once
I can be a rapper by choice, Mexican by place, and part of a small leadership team through work. Each membership explains a different part of my language, loyalties, and experience.
Tribe stacking becomes useful when those layers describe one real person and change the same question I am trying to understand.
